I’m a retired New York City detective who somehow found his way from Manhattan to the Balkans. After my time with the NYPD, I spent two decades working internationally for the U.S. Department of State, the United Nations, and the Department of Justice; I’ve seen the best and worst of human behavior — often in the same afternoon.
Land of Broken Toys: Kosovo available on Amazon. It is a work of fiction based on real events.
Land of Broken Toys: Kosovo is part crime thriller, part dark comedy, and part fish-out-of-water story. There’s humor in the absurdities of peacekeeping life — Irish jokes told over Turkish coffee, UN bureaucracy that would make Kafka blush — but beneath the laughter sits something serious: the idea that belief and integrity still matter, even when the world stops rewarding them.
I wrote this book for readers who like their fiction grounded in real places, real people, and hard-earned truth — told with enough humor to make the truth bearable. If you are curious about any of the accounts in the book or If you have any questions about the story, please, send them to me and I will answer them in the blog. I don’t mind sharing what was true, what was partially true, and what I fabricated out of thin air. Ironically, the more outrageous stuff is based on true stories. While many of the more believable anecdotes were made up.
